The author follows the Doberman’s trail and traces its history from its native Germany through all the many countries in which it has found popularity for its wonderful attributes, and in this book we visit the Doberman in such far-flung centers of burgeoning Doberman popularity as Russia, Malaysia, Trinidad, South Africa and Czechoslovakia as well as in the United States and Great Britain.
The Doberman’s use as a guard dog is well known, and for the home-owner useful information about obedience training has been included, coupled with a detailed account of the breed’s use in protecting property and as a police dog serving in many municipal police forces. There are even sections dealing with Dobermans on drill teams, and the breed’s utility to highly specialized security forces such as Israeli police forces.
Of course, considerations of general care and management of the Doberman are well covered, too. Feeding, breeding, grooming, showing, care of the aged dog, health care it’s all here. Included also are a Dictionary of Dog Diseases and a Glossary of Dog Terms.
To complement the text, hundreds of photos are included, not only of the great historic dogs, but also charming candid at home photos and show poses with many of the great handlers representing big-name kennels, plus 34 color photos from around the world showing different colors of the Doberman.
